Conversion of hostel to high care nursing home &

Adaptive re-use of existing four storied hostel by conversion to high care nursing home:

Issues included – unpopular hostel accommodation, lack of adequate lift access, complex circulation and way-finding, lack of space for resident assistance, lack of on-floor common facilities

Solutions included – Opening up centre of floors to ease way-finding, domestic-scaled kitchen servery, dining and, lounge areas on each floor, new bed-sized emergency lift, conversion of dining hall into common facilities
increase in room sizes, replanning and increasing size of en-suite bathrooms, increased storage on each floor, aesthetic improvements to exterior
